Charity EventsRaising money for CATS Foundation
|Over 80 MTN professionals from 35 institutions joined us last week for our market drinks and charity poker evening.
Aside from catching up with colleagues and making new connections, with your help we managed to raise just over £2,000 for two children’s charities doing fantastic work: CATS Foundation and Free to Be Kids.
Both charities focus on meaningful support of children in need and unlike some major charities, small amounts make a BIG difference. Your donation directly impacts these children so every bit really does help.

Congratulations to our poker tournament winner, Sam Robinson from Hitachi Capital, as well as the winners of the Dom Perignon raffle:

|We really look forward to welcoming you to our summer networking drinks and charity poker tournament!
Structurers, distributors, issuers and investors from over 30 leading institutions enjoyed another entertaining and inspirational mtn-i Americas showcase and awards dinner.
From Mark Grant’s string of challenges to orthodox expectations, our own top 10 trends, 10 winner pitches and the exciting vision that was the Future of Structured Americas – it was a fulfilling afternoon in the Florida sunshine before the awards dinner.
mtn-i proudly sponsored the SFBTA 3rd Annual Charity Poker Tournament and raised an amazing $5,500 in memory of our friend and colleague, CIBC’s Brennan O’Brien and the Cycle for Survival.
We would like to thank everyone who joined in and helped make the night a great success.
If you weren’t there – don’t miss it next year!
What a night!
A record turnout, £6,000 raised for children’s charities and even the voice of Apple’s Siri all helped mtn-i’s 14th Annual MTN Awards night on Thursday go off with some extra fizz!
The Republic of Poland, the EBRD, EDF, ESM, KfW, the IFC and Qatar National Bank were among the illustrious list of borrowers recognised among over 40 institutions represented by nearly 200 attendees.
Jon Briggs (aka Siri) announced the winners while Nick Martland’s band played them onto the stage – the lucky ones got Bond themes!
Dealers, Issuers and Investors of the Year!
Recognition this year ranged across private placement markets, embracing Euro PPs, Schuldscheine, N-Bonds and Green Bonds as well as traditional MTN and structured notes.
Citi and HSBC were MTN and Private Placement Houses of the Year, respectively, while the IFC scooped the Issuer of the Year award.
JP Morgan won Structured MTN Dealer of the Year, while our Editor’s Award honoured Credit Suisse for its cross-asset structuring platform. Central Bank of Algeria scooped our Investor of the Year Award.
Our Rising Stars, Deals of the Year and Investor Solutions categories spotlighted a diverse range of entrepreneurial dealership, innovative structuring, investor discovery and intrepid issuing in MTN and private placement markets.
During the lunch and Showcase that preceded the awards dinner, market strategists unpacked the various possible outcomes of Trump, Brexit and the upcoming European elections on markets…
The mtn-i editorial team picked out a dozen of the private debt market’s hot spots poised for further growth in 2017!
Nine issuers and dealers pitched their credits and trade ideas…
…and to wrap things up the market’s leading private market dealers, issuers and investors considered the future of private debt markets.
£6,000 for CATS and Free To Be Kids!
The generous donation of auction items and bidders on the night raised £6,000 for two children’s charities.
CATs, the charity founded by ex-Dresdner MTN Trader Daniel Lewi who was there on the night, supports families and children affected by Tay-Sachs disease.
We were also honoured to be joined by Free To be Kids founder Rachel Nichols. Free to be Kids provides residential therapeutic adventures and activities for vulnerable children.
Since our award dinners started we’ve raised over £80,000 for vulnerable and sick children.

Free To Be is a new charity established to support children & young people who are struggling with social or emotional difficulties, and to help create lasting change for vulnerable children’s emotional health.
Skilled volunteers work with disadvantaged children & young people across London to rebuild self-esteem, boost resilience and to help explore challenging emotions and ways of managing via one to one mentoring, after school groups and therapeutic adventures & residentials.
Cure & Action for Tay-Sachs Foundation is dedicated to providing awareness of Tay Sachs and Sandhoff diseases and supporting the families affected.
In 2016, CATS Foundation are launching their ‘Race for the Cure’ campaign, as they begin clinical trials for a possible cure. The charity provides a support network, respite trips and vital equipment so that a sufferer’s quality of life is as high as possible. The CATS Foundation also provides funding to the research team who are investigating a potential treatment for both Tay-Sachs and Sandhoff disease.
We are 15!
Over 100 MTN professionals joined us at London’s Madison rooftop bar on the 8th September to celebrate mtn-i’s 15th Birthday. We partied into the early hours of the morning and raised more money for children’s charities. And nearly everybody wore their mtn-i 15th Birthday badges!
The first 15 years have been a rollercoaster for us all. So it was great to celebrate with so many who have been trading MTNs for that long – in some cases longer! Among those in this category, we were honoured to be joined by Ann-Marie Ahlen Fihlman from Swedish Export Credit and Commonwealth Bank of Australia’s former head of international funding, the now-retired Jacques Lumb.
The 1st million deals!
It’s a long-standing tradition for mtn-i events to coincide with volcanic eruptions and once in a century snowstorms or typhoons or market crashes! So it was good to be blessed with a beautiful evening and stable markets for once.
So it’s a great moment to think of the things that MTNs have been at the heart of funding during that time! The work of the World Bank, 500m child vaccines in developing countries, and the bridge and tunnel link between Denmark and Sweden spring to mind – among many others!
£65k for children so far!
Our raffle at the party raised another £1,000 for charity on top of the £64,000 we’ve raised with your help in recent years – all to support vulnerable children. This year we’ve raised £5k for the CATs Foundation which supports children with Tay-Sachs and Sandhoff disease and their families (founded by former Commerzbanker, the amazingly resourceful Dan Lewi). The money we raised at the party goes towards funding the £6,000 we’ve already given to Free To Be Kids, which provided 27 vulnerable London children with a life-changing summer break this August. And later this year we will also be raising money for Lemn Sissay’s Christmas Dinners for Care Leavers, which ensures that children who leave local authority care continue to have somewhere to go on Christmas Day into their 20s.
As mtn-i’s founder and CEO I’d like to offer my heart-felt thanks to every mtn-i user for your amazing enthusiasm and generosity towards us and our charities over the years. We look forward to reporting and recognising your work with continued enthusiasm over the next 15 years! CLICK HERE to see the photos from the party!
The next stop on our journey is the 7th Asia Pacific Showcase and Awards, 20 October Grand Hyatt, Hong Kong…
See you soon!
